"Makong Kaumahan Festival"

Hello everyone! Now I am going to share to you a unique tradition in my community. Makong Kaumahan which literally means wide field  is the relative  of agricultural landscape that our community was known for. Makong Kaumanhan festival symbolizes the life and sources of income of the people in our community. It shows that our community is rich in agricultural product. Makong Kaumahan festival has been put together not only as way to bring joy in many people in our community but it aims to achieve its main goal to be an agro-industrial frontier. And one thing that makes the people in our community interested and excited in Makong Kaumanhan festival is the unique and beautiful performances of the queens and dancers.

The flow of Makong Kaumahan festival consisted of street dance and a final showdown with the participants mutja ng kaumahan. It happens every year of November 17. The participants performance portray the livelihood of the people in our community. It also portrays the main sources of income of the people in our community that comes from the high value agricultural products such as rice, corn, vegetables, and coconut. The mutja ng kaumahan participants are glamorously beautiful and look stunning in their dance performance and festival gowns. 

In addition, our makong kaumahan festival is not just pure dancing. It also consist of different activities such as “magkagod,  maglubo ug mais, and magbunot ug lubi gamit and baba”.

What makes Makong Kaumahan festival unique is that, everything we do during the festival is filled with love and we are forever grateful to God who is the reason of everything that happens that result of “magandang ani”. It is not too late to show the best version of ourselves, that better days are coming and it is a privilige to share to others the beauty of an agricultural community.
